Red Bull make significant Yan Diomande transfer call amid Liverpool interest
Liverpool have been tipped to shakeup their frontline in the summer transfer window.
Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa could both be leaving - meaning Richard Hughes will require a new right-wing option. Salah, 33, looks set for a move to MLS or the Saudi Pro League and 28-year-old Chiesa is wanted in Italy.
Over on the other side of the attack Cody Gakpo has been linked with Atletico Madrid - while Rio Ngumoha, 17, is the Dutchman’s only competition.
Accordingly it’s been suggested that Yan Diomande - the prodigious 19-year-old from RB Leipzig could be an option. The Ivorian has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season for the Red Bulls - heavily tipped for a summer transfer.
But according to a report in 90PLUS he will be STAYING at the Red Bull Arena next season - even if the Germans are offered record-breaking fees for his services.
"He'll still be here next season – even if an offer of 80 or 90 million euros comes in,” supervisory board chairman, Oliver Mintzlaff, is reported to have said.
Yan Diomande: Situation summary
Yan Diomande has moved through his first full season at RB Leipzig with the kind of velocity that forces a club to rethink its timelines.
At 19 years old (born 14 November 2006) and tied down until June 2030, Leipzig have the security to develop him on their terms, but his impact is already pushing him beyond the usual bedding‑in period.
He arrived from Leganés for around €17.5m, which converts to roughly £15m, and that already looks like a bargain. His current market valuation reflects how quickly he has adapted to Bundesliga tempo and how aggressively he attacks space from either flank.
Leipzig’s model depends on identifying players who can be sold at their peak, but Diomande complicates that logic.
He’s producing now — goals, assists, consistent minutes — and he’s doing it in a side that expects its wide players to carry both pressing and ball‑progression loads.
That he’s already drawing Premier League attention is predictable; that Leipzig may have to consider offers below the £80m mark if they miss out on the Champions League is the more interesting part.
For now, he’s a starter, a difference‑maker, and a rising asset whose trajectory is accelerating faster than Leipzig planned.
Analysis
It’s hard to view Red Bull’s stance as anything other than posturing ahead of the transfer window opening. The teenager has got nine goals and six assists in the German top flight this season - including a goal over the weekend against Hamburg.
There is little to no chance of RB being able to hang on to their emerging African superstar for much longer - and they have proven in the past they are more than willing to negotiate.
Liverpool have had the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konate, Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita after passing through the Red Bull system previously.
They could be about to receive their greatest gift yet - despite what Red Bull are currently saying about it.
