Real Madrid admit defeat in Olise chase: They think he's going to Liverpool
It looks all but certain that Liverpool will be moving on from Mohamed Salah at the end of the current season.
Salah, 33, is contracted until 2027 - making £400k per week - but looks set for pastures new. The Egyptian King hasn’t been the same player this season as he was during 2024/25 - and has even spent time out of the lineup under Arne Slot.
A benching versus Leeds in the Premier League led to a high-profile spat between the forward and his employers although that all looks to be smoothed over.
But if the right offer is received - from MLS or more likely Saudi Arabia - then Salah could be on his way. Talk would then focus on which player could come to Anfield to replace him.
Real Madrid-angled news outlet Defensa Central seems to believe that Michael Olise could be that candidate.
Real Madrid admit defeat over Olise
The 24-year-old has been on the Liverpool radar for a long time - with the Reds’ interest stretching to his stint at Crystal Palace.
Olise has moved to another level since joining Bayern in 2024 and is also a wanted man in the Bernabeu. The report suggests it’s Liverpool and not Madrid or anyone else who are currently leading the race for the French international.
Moreover the left-footed attacker - it is claimed - is now open to moving to Anfield despite his Bayern contract running until 2029.
“The idea of the Liverpool club is to sign the Bayern Munich player, who would become the replacement for Mo Salah, who, barring any last-minute surprises, will leave Anfield this summer,” the report reads.
Olise is open to Liverpool move
“Michael Olise, who has a contract until June 2029 with the Bavarian giant, would be willing to return to England, considering that he was born in Hammersmith (London), even more so to become the leader of Liverpool, something that is very difficult for him in Germany with the presence in the team of Vincent Kompany and players like Kane, Musiala, Gnabry or Karl,” the report continues.
Olise’s family were reported to be in attendance as Liverpool slumped to a defeat to Brighton over the weekend. That outing will have done little to convince the winger to move to Merseyside but hopefully a summer transfer overhaul - and perhaps a change of head coach - sorts out Liverpool.
Less believable is Defensa Central’s reported Olise asking price.
“Sources in Germany suggest that the German leadership would let him go for 100 million euros,” the report reads.
Previous reports have stated that Bayern might be looking for almost double that. But if the player agitates for a move back to England then Bayern may lose some of their leverage in this deal.
