The 'ELITE' attacker lined up to replace Mo Salah

Liverpool have a superstar in mind as a clear replacement for Mo Salah. It's not a simple one to make happen, however.

Yes, Liverpool spent over £450m in the summer. That doesn't change the fact that their long-term rebuild is not finished and that they've got important business to get through.

Mo Salah is one of the main reasons for that. The Egyptian will have one year left on his contract after this season and it feels unlikely that he's re-signed as a starting player for the Reds after that.

It may even be that Liverpool and Salah decide to part ways this summer while there's still the possibility of a transfer fee for him. You never know.

But whenever the time comes for Salah to step aside from Liverpool's right flank, there is no clear choice to step into his spot. In fact, the squad doesn't really have a single out-and-out right-winger to take over the mantle.

Thus such a player must be signed. Liverpool will need to dip into the transfer market once again in a near-impossible attempt to replace an all-time great.

There are truly elite options out there who could do it, though. And it sounds like the club have their eyes on one.

Michael Olise and Liverpool

Liverpool have consistently been linked with a move for Michael Olise as his future at Bayern Munich looks a little uncertain. The Bundesliga champions hope to renew his contract with a bigger salary and a few more years - but there's a sense that Olise may not want that.

If he doesn't, a sale becomes very possible and Liverpool hope to put pressure on the situation. They're not exactly the only club looking to do that, mind.

But when it comes to the Salah situation, there isn't really a better successor than Olise. He's been sensational since moving to Bayern, rapidly developing into one of the best wingers in world football.

Basic stats highlight that: 12 goals and 15 assists in the Bundesliga last season. Another four goals and two assists this season.

The underlying data, though, truly highlights why Olise is special. Gradient shows that off nicely.

Olise is considered 'elite' when it comes to his passing under pressure, as well as his ability to find through balls. That's compared to other players across the Bundesliga in his position.

He's also considered comfortably above average, if not quite 'elite', his his ball carrying and dribbling skills. He's at the same level with his shooting, both under pressure and free.

These are ultimately the skills that Liverpool are looking for on that flank. They've struggled badly this season, for instance, when it comes to breaking down defensive lines.

Olise's skillset is absolutely perfect for doing just that. It's what he excels at, in fact, and he's the player Liverpool should aim for when it comes to replacing Salah long-term.

Now, how likely it is - that's another matter. But this is the deal the Reds should be looking to make.
