Slot has led Liverpool to the precipice of their 20th league title, but the squad he has at his disposal is still very much Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Federico Chiesa has been the only addition to the squad since Slot’s appointment and, although there have been a few departures, the core of Klopp’s last Liverpool squad remains at Anfield.

All of that could change this summer however, and a deal that would see one Liverpool star depart is edging closer.

Luis Diaz’s Saudi Pro League move edges closer

One of the high-profile departures expected at the close of the season is Luis Diaz.

The Colombian is at a contract stalemate with the club and has a number of suitors outside of Merseyside.

Interest from the Saudi Pro League was initially revealed by Anfield Watch back in February. Saudi Arabia is now starting to seem like the 28-year-old’s most likely destination.

At times this season it had looked as though Diaz was destined for a move to Barcelona, but that now seems increasingly unlikely.

According to Spanish outlet MARCA, the La Liga leaders are no longer planning on signing a winger this summer.

That rules them out of a move for Diaz then.

The future of Luis Diaz

Although his time at Anfield seems almost certain to end this summer, Diaz has been an important part of Slot’s maiden campaign as Liverpool boss.

Only Mohamed Salah has made more appearances for the Reds this season, and not everyone has written off the Colombian as a long-term option for Liverpool.

The riches of Saudi Arabia will be very hard to resist though and, with Liverpool committing big wages to both Salah and Virgil van Dijk with their new contracts, it is hard to see Diaz getting the big pay out he seeks if he stays in Merseyside.

It isn’t entirely clear what fee it would take to secure the 28-year-old’s signature, but a fee of up to €70 million has been reported.

Diaz’s future is definitely not certain, but Barcelona withdrawing from the race for his signature makes a Saudi Pro League move even more likely, and the Colombian may well be playing out his final season at Anfield.
