Jurgen Klopp will ask Real Madrid for TWO Liverpool players after replacing Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso has found his position as Real Madrid head coach under severe threat early in his reign.

Results have been poor in recent weeks for the 44-year-old - who left Bayer Leverkusen for the Bernabeu last summer. If the situation doesn’t pick up fast then the former contender for the Liverpool head coaching job could find himself quickly out of work.

Replacements have already been floated - and it looks like Madrid president Florentino Perez could be ready to turn to Jurgen Klopp as a permanent successor to the former Reds’ midfield.

Klopp has been working at Red Bull since leaving Liverpool in 2024 and has given no great indication that he is preparing a return to the dugout.

But according to a report in Defensa Central the German WOULD consider a return to coaching in the Spanish capital.

Klopp asks for two Liverpool stars

The Premier League and Champions League-winning manager would seek certain guarantees from Madrid however and not all of them are good news for Liverpool.

Klopp, 58, wants to bring in his own players right from the get-go and has identified two of his Liverpool signings to come with him to Spain.

The name of Ibrahima Konate comes as no surprise. He was signed by Klopp for Liverpool back in 2021 - and has been linked with a free transfer move to Madrid for the last few months.

The other name is that of Dominik Szoboszlai. Hungary captain Szoboszlai has been a revelation for the Reds this season - becoming Arne Slot’s most important player during a difficult spell.

The 25-year-old is out of contract in 2028 - with it believed that Richard Hughes is planning talks over a bumper new deal. However Real Madrid - and potential new coach Klopp - are planning to spoil that party by encouraging Szoboszlai to LaLiga.

Liverpool need to pay attention to developments in Madrid. The 15-time European champions have had success in coaching players away from Anfield in the past - Alonso included.

The attractions are obvious - particularly for Szoboszlai who has been used as a Swiss Army Knife of sorts for Slot. If Liverpool’s prospects diminish any further then it is understandable he would be tempted to join Madrid.

Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that stage and Madrid - as well as Klopp - leave us well alone.
