Liverpool to bank £23m PROFIT with controversial sale

Liverpool are in position to make considerable profit on a transfer. It's not an easy one to make, however - even if it's close.

Liverpool have signed a lot of players this summer, overhauling their first-team squad. But they've sold even more - including some key first-teamers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez all played major roles last season but have moved on. Caoimhin Kelleher was vital as backup, too, but he's now at Brentford. Then there's Jarell Quansah - he worked his way back into contention at the tail end of the campaign but has been sold to Bayer Leverkusen.

More sales are on the way, too, as the transfer deadline nears. Liverpool want to make sure they've got a squad of players who will actually play and move on those who could potentially get lost in the shuffle.

Now, of course, plans change. Federico Chiesa looked destined for an exit but has decided to stay and fight for his place.

That's a rare case, however. Most will disappear in search of regular first-team football - and another such deal is getting close.

Harvey Elliott nears exit

Empire of the Kop reports that Liverpool and RB Leipzig are in talks over Harvey Elliott. It's a somewhat controversial sale given the player's ability - Jürgen Klopp had him down as 'the best' in the squad towards the end of his tenure.

And there's a sense that Arne Slot hasn't really given Elliott a fair go of it. Only the two Premier League starts all season last time out.

But if there isn't room in the team - and Florian Wirtz's arrival certainly makes that difficult - then it's best for everyone that Elliott moves on. Especially as Liverpool will get a very healthy profit out of this one.

They signed the playmaker for £1.5m from Fulham after a tribunal. Leipzig are ready to offer £25m immediately for Elliott, while there's a belief that Liverpool could get them up to £34m.

That kind of profit makes it a lot easier to push forward on incoming transfers, providing ample PSR room. Another reason why Liverpool will be in favour of a deal here.

This one could move quite quickly, too.
