Liverpool get SERIOUS about signing £87m Real Madrid midfielder
Liverpool last had a full midfield refit back in 2023.
Out went top stars like Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. And in their place came Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo.
Jurgen Klopp and then-sporting director Jorg Schmadtke got it spot on with their midfield reinforcements - and that quartet alongside Curtis Jones remain the Premier League champions’ senior options to this day.
There are however signs that change could be coming in the summer transfer window. Liverpool have got doubts over the long-term future of Jones as the homegrown star has been linked with both Chelsea and Tottenham of late.
A decent senior midfielder is also required in order to provide expert cover and lighten the load on Gravenberch and Mac Allister in particular.
And to address those concerns sporting director Richard Hughes is ready to turn to a Real Madrid star.
Liverpool get SERIOUS over Camavinga
According to a report in Caught Offside Liverpool are getting “serious” about signing Eduardo Camavinga.
“This could cost in the region of €80-100m,” the report reads.
Camavinga has found himself down the pecking order at the Bernabeu this season - making only seven LaLiga starts.
It’s been a season of turbulence for the Spanish capital side and Camavinga was one of the figures blamed for their recent Copa del Rey elimination to second tier Albacete.
The 23-year-old remains a player “hugely appreciated inside Anfield due to his ability to play defensive midfield and left-back to a high standard,” the report reads.
Camavinga joined Madrid from Rennes back in 2021 - and is under contract at the 15-time European champions until 2029. Despite the high costs involved the Anfield club are determined to push through a deal and are currently not taking no for an answer.
Liverpool make contact for Camavinga
“There have been some initial contacts, but the message is a resounding ‘no’, not for any price,” the report reads.
“Liverpool are pursuing this deal because they think there’s a chance that the situation could change.”
The France international has won two Champions Leagues for Los Blancos since his arrival but the writing may well be on the wall for his Real Madrid career.
“Liverpool remain keen to add depth in that department in order to ease the pressure on Ryan Gravenberch, while there are some doubts over Curtis Jones’ long-term future,” the report states.
It’s not the first time Camavinga has appeared on the radar with various reports linking him to Anfield throughout the autumn and winter.
Not only a No6 Camavinga can also play further forward and is renowned for his rate of progressive passing.
Under Carlo Ancelotti meanwhile he played at left-back - meaning Arne Slot could add to his options in that position once Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas depart.
Liverpool would effectively be adding three world-class options to their squad for a fee of between £70m and £87m. If there is a deal to be done for Camavinga Liverpool would be wise to wrap it up quickly.
