Liverpool made the difficult decision to part ways with several attackers in the summer transfer window.

High-profile Premier League title-winners Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz departed for pastures new - while up-and-coming winger Ben Gannon-Doak was also sold.

One player who was perhaps expected to move on was Federico Chiesa.

Having endured a difficult season under Arne Slot following his £12.5m arrival from Juventus, the Italian was not short of offers in summer.

Chiesa back in contention

Back home the likes of Roma, AC Milan and Napoli were named as potential suitors for the 28-year-old, who simply could not force his way into Slot’s first XI.

However the winger settled well over the summer break - despite missing out on the preseason tour to Asia - and has finally become a legitimate option for the Reds.

Chiesa has scored two Premier League goals this season despite very limited game time. However the former Fiorentina attacker has still not nailed down a position as a starter.

Napoli want €18m deal for Chiesa

Therefore clubs in Italy remain optimistic that Chiesa would swap the Premier League for Serie A in January. With a World Cup around the corner, Chiesa will no doubt be keen to get back in the reckoning of head coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Now SNAI is reporting that Napoli are ready to sanction a deal for Chiesa in winter.

With Kevin De Bruyne suffering an injury complication, Chiesa could re-align the Neapolitans’ Serie A defence - with club president Aurelio di Laurentiis preparing to sanction an €18m move.

Liverpool given crucial Chiesa decision to make

That sum could in turn boost Richard Hughes’ transfer coffers at Anfield - with a centre-back becoming a new priority for the Reds’ sporting director.

Chiesa is under contract until 2028 and still has plenty to offer. Whether Hughes and Slot decide to cash in remains to be seen.

This season he has been involved in 12 matches - adding three assists to his two goals - but has only started in the EFL Cup.

Right now he is taking an international break as Chiesa works on his full fitness and finding his way into the Liverpool lineup.
