The future of Federico Chiesa remains unresolved.

The Liverpool winger has been a marginal figure under Arne Slot - since joining for a fee that could reach £12.5m back in September 2024.

Chiesa, 28, failed to make a decisive breakthrough under Slot during the 2024/25 Premier League title-winning campaign. And even though the forward has featured more regularly during this season he still does not appear to possess Slot’s trust to start games.

The Italy international has managed only ONE start in the top flight so far this season and played no minutes in the recent clash against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Transfer rumours are not hotting up around Chiesa - who could well be the subject of a bid from Juventus during the January window.

Chiesa says YES to Juve return

Juve are seeking to restock their forward line during this transfer period - with head coach Luciano Spalletti having previously coached Chiesa for the national team.

And now comes a report in Gazzetta dello Sport which claims that Chiesa has said YES to the possibility of a Juventus return. Having been cleared out in summer 2024 - with a year left on his contract - he is reported to feel like he’s got unfinished business in Turin.

Crucially the head coach who didn’t fancy him - Thiago Motta - and the sporting director who sanctioned his departure - Cristiano Giuntoli are no longer at the club.

Therefore Chiesa sees an opportunity to make an impact for the Serie A giants in the second half of the season.

Chiesa wants clarity

Chiesa is also reported to be keen on breaking back into the Italian squad for the FIFA World Cup playoffs in March - and could well end up playing his part in the squad for the tournament proper next summer.

And while the message from Liverpool has always been that Chiesa is a valued member of the first-team squad the reality doesn’t always match that claim.

Chiesa has managed only 228 minutes in the Premier League this season - around 12 percent of the total available - and Gazzetta states that the player wants clarity over his role.

It remains to be seen what kind of deal the Reds are willing to do over Chiesa. He is on around ÂŁ150k per week - on a contract to 2028.

Juventus would no doubt prefer a loan deal but it’s been reported the Premier League champions would only entertain a permanent offer.

A compromise may be reached on a loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer. Either way it now seems likely that Chiesa - a Liverpool fan favourite departs over the coming weeks.
