The Reds aren't exactly eager to let this one happen, with no plans to sell Diaz this summer. However, the player's own push for a move changes things quite dramatically.

There are certain players at Liverpool where they'd be happy to 'force' them to stay the length of their contract. We can't imagine Diaz is one of those and if the 'right' offer comes in, he'll be off.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona both want to sign him and you'd think that would be that. Only, neither of them have really come close to Liverpool's asking price.

That price sits at around €80m or at least it did before Diaz started agitating for a transfer. It may now fall, especially if Liverpool's interest in Rodrygo is real.

Fabrizio Romano certainly believes a transfer for Diaz is very possible, though.

Fabrizio Romano on Luis Diaz

"Luis Diaz remains open to leave Liverpool this summer, if good proposal arrives for the club," Romano wrote on Twitter.

"LFC rejected bids from Bayern and also an approach from Barça in June as they want to keep Diaz.

"Both Bayern and Barça plan to try again, in direct contact with his agents."

This one is going to run a little while longer, then. Both Bayern and Barca intended to sign Nico Williams this summer, of course, but his new contract with Athletic Bilbao ended any chances there.

And so both turn to Diaz as an alternative option. They're in contact with his agents as a result but we're not sure that's the important part here.

We're certain Diaz is happy to move to either club. We're not so sure either club is willing to pay what Liverpool want, however.

That's the tricky bit and the reason this isn't sorted yet. Time will tell but as things stand, there appears to be a way to go.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
