Brace yourselves: Fabrizio Romano confirms Florian Wirtz is HAPPENING
Liverpool had a dream 2024/25 Premier League season. Arne Slot oversaw the Reds’ 20th top-flight title at the first time of asking. But things look like they are about to get even better.
It’s no secret that the club are eyeing upgrades in the summer transfer window. And the player who has emerged as a priority target is Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz has been convinced that his long-term future lies on Merseyside - and the two clubs must now work out a deal. Leverkusen appear resigned to losing Wirtz sooner rather than later, with the player’s contract extending only until 2027.
Leverkusen want €150m for Wirtz
If they do not sell this summer there is a real chance he leaves for a vastly diminished fee next year.
The 2023/24 Bundesliga champions are thought to value Wirtz at €150m - although Richard Hughes may succeed in getting that price down before a deal is complete.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations are about to re-start between Liverpool and Leverkusen over Wirtz. Given that Slot has said he wants signings completed sooner rather than later, this deal could be set for a quick resolution.
Talks on between Leverkusen and Liverpool
That would leave the Reds with Wirtz available to join the pre-season tour the the Far East this summer.
“Liverpool first official bid for Florian Wirtz in excess of €100m package with add-ons has been received by Bayer Leverkusen,” Romano wrote on X.
“Club to club negotiations underway, restarting today to get the deal done very soon. Wirtz already told Bayer that he only wants Liverpool.”
Liverpool want quick deal for Wirtz
Wirtz hit 10 goals and provided 13 assists for Leverkusen last season, maintaining the fine individual form, which brought the club their first-ever Bundesliga title the season before.

Bayern were thought to be DESPERATE to add Wirtz to the squad but Liverpool have already pulled off a significant coup by turning a prime German talent away from the clutches of the Bavarians.
Let’s hope this deal gets wrapped up quickly and fans can truly get excited about the future.
