Liverpool get EXTRAORDINARY Julian Alvarez boost as forward confirms next move
Liverpool missed out on signing Julian Alvarez back in 2024. Owing to a breakdown with Manchester City, the Reds were unable to secure the signature of the Argentine forward and he joined Atletico Madrid instead.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a spectacular first season in the Spanish capital - scoring 29 times in all competitions - but transfer talk around the 25-year-old has never truly gone away.

There have been reports in the Spanish press that Alvarez is unhappy under the management of Diego Simeone - who has a frustrating habit of failing to allow the World Cup winner to complete 90 minutes.

Accordingly, it’s been suggested that Alvarez - who cost a fee that could reach €95m - is ready to consider his future.
Julian Alvarez considers leaving Atletico
Liverpool are right there for Alvarez if he decides to leave Atletico - with Fichajes now claiming that the Premier League champions are best placed to land him if he leaves.
Barcelona would also like the striker on board but stand no chance of outgunning Liverpool from a financial perspective.
“The forward is beginning to seriously consider leaving the Metropolitano,” the report reads.
Liverpool’s attack is stacked right now - with a pair of No9s in Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak - while Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Mo Salah are also present in Arne Slot’s squad.
Liverpool see Alvarez as IDEAL candidate
As we’ve seen with Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz however, if the deal is right then Liverpool are not afraid to open the chequebook.
The club have admired Alvarez since his days as a young player with River Plate and he has been seen as a prime target for a long time now.
“The club that appears best positioned is Liverpool,” the report continues. “The English side sees Julián Álvarez as the ideal player to bolster its attack for the immediate future.
“They value Julián Álvarez's versatility, capable of playing as a center forward or on either wing. His style of play would be a perfect fit for the Premier League.”
Alvarez open to move
Alvarez signed a contract until 2030 with Atletico and so it would take a huge sum to extract him from his current club.
He has the capability to shine in the Premier League however - scoring 36 goals and adding 19 assists for Manchester City in all competitions across 103 appearances - and not always as a starter either.
"Liverpool, for their part, are preparing an aggressive strategy," the report reads.
"They consider Julián Álvarez a unique opportunity and aren't willing to let a striker with such impact slip away. Julián Álvarez's entourage also doesn't rule out a multi-million-dollar transfer."
