Each summer, the club tries to make sure the head coach has everything they need to succeed in the upcoming season, and occasionally you might find that an 'opportunistic' signing struggles to fit in.

This appears to have been the case with Federico Chiesa who was brought in on deadline day 2024.

When he joined, his fitness wasn't quite up to the mark and once he had finally got himself up to speed, his body started to fail him with a couple of spells on the sidelines after intensive training.

Eventually, he finally got to achieve his dream by playing at Anfield and we all had a lot of hope that we could revive his career, but the latest update from club suggests his time at Liverpool might be up.

Liverpool announce pre-season squad

The Reds began their travels to Asia on Sunday evening for the club's preseason tour and a 29-man squad was announced just before takeoff, giving the fans a glimpse into Arne Slot's plans.

Chiesa has been missed off the list, which implies he might well be leaving this summer, with no further opportunities coming his way to prove himself at Liverpool.

We were all aware of the fact that he struggled last season, and the move to England looked to have been a mistake, but he has still got three years on his contract, so we felt he might have more time.

He's only 27 years old after all, with plenty of his career still to go, but he'll be spending it elsewhere.

Bizarrely, we saw reports that the Italian had featured in the behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke City which took place at the training facilities on Sunday evening, and he even managed to get on the scoresheet in the second half, which must have been a confidence booster for him.

Of course, it might be that Chiesa got injured during the contest, which is why he won't make the trip to Asia, but all the signs are point towards a transfer move and Italian clubs are said to be interested.

You feel that if he can get himself in a position to play regular minutes, then he can offer a potential suitor a threatening attacking asset. Under the management of Slot he only got 477 minutes last season, but of course, he was battling with a Mohamed Salah all-timer campaign for game time.

So it'll be fascinating to see how the remainder of his career turns out. It was certainly a pleasure to see him feature at the club, his admiration for Liverpool was clear from the outset and the fans will undoubtedly miss him - the song created for him will live on in the club's folklore for years to come.
