MAJOR update in outgoing Liverpool left-back's exit deal

The January transfer window closes on Monday.

And there is the possibility of Liverpool concluding certain deals before then. For example the recent injuries to both Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong could press the Premier League champions into action at right-back.

Sporting director Richard Hughes will also be alert to any emerging centre-back situations - given the lack of depth Arne Slot has available to him in the position at present.

There is a chance that the Reds could opt to part ways with other squad members - with Juventus being tipped to come back in for Federico Chiesa before the window closes.

And younger players such as Lewis Koumas, Keyrol Figueroa and Trent Kone Doherty may find themselves out on loan before Monday is out.

Calum Scanlon on Cardiff radar

Speculation has mounted in the last few days meanwhile that left-back Calum Scanlon could be about to land on loan at League One Cardiff City for the second half of the season.

The 20-year-old was making progress on loan at Millwall last season before injury affected his rhythm.

He returned from that loan early and has been recovering with Liverpool at the AXA Training Centre ever since - recently making a comeback for the club’s under-21 side.

Scanlon, an England U20 international, is clearly now fit enough to play some first-team football and it was reckoned the Bluebirds were close to landing his signature.

Those reports have been now played down however by Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy - amid intense competition for Scanlon’s services.

Time running out for Scanlon deal

“Obviously I know Callum from Liverpool, but it’s getting late in the window,” the coach said according to Wales Online.

"While we’ve been pretty transparent about areas of the squad that we need to improve, when it gets this late we can’t have any guarantees or certainty that anybody will come to the club before the window shuts on Monday.”

There remains a possibility of Scanlon landing a loan deal somewhere before the window shuts.

And with uncertainty growing around the long-term prospects of both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas a decent temporary spell could end up proving decisive in terms of a first-team breakthrough for the former Birmingham City youth.
