Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak were among the highest-profile arrivals - each setting a new British transfer record in the process.

Jeremie Frimpong was brought in to relieve Mohamed Salah on the right wing while Hugo Ekitike has been a revelation since signing from Eintracht Frankfurt. But the interest in forward didn’t stop there.

Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth could well be described as one that got away - with Richard Hughes the sporting director known to be a big fan of the Ghana international.

Bournemouth expecting interest for Semenyo

Indeed Hughes signed Semenyo for the Cherries when he was technical director on the south coast - and was tipped to complete a second deal for the versatile forward last summer.

According to a new report in TEAMtalk, Semenyo is “admired” at Anfield - not least for his homegrown status which would assist in Champions League player registrations.

And the same report suggests several of the Premier League’s biggest teams - Liverpool included - could be back for Semenyo in 2026.

Liverpool known to have 'admired' Semenyo

“Tottenham looked into a breakthrough on a couple of occasions, and Manchester United explored the situation around their push for more creativity,” the report reads.

“Liverpool admired his profile for their Champions League squad, while Newcastle pursued him along with a host of other considerations and Arsenal monitored him as part of their winger shortlist.”

Semenyo scores twice at Anfield

Bournemouth set Semenyo’s price at around £70m last summer - around what Liverpool paid for Ekitike - and have managed to renew his contract until 2030.

It’ll take a sizeable fee to take the former Bristol City wide man out of the Vitality Stadium but Liverpool have proven in recent months what they want they usually get.

This season he’s got three goals - two of which came in the opening day defeat to Liverpool at Anfield - as well as two assists across five Premier League matches for Andoni Iraola’s impressive team.
