Andoni Iraola has seen enough: Four midfielders put on the list for January transfers

The 2026/27 season has begun with Andoni Iraola seeking to solve a midfield conundrum involving three senior stars.

The Spaniard, 44, has rotated his starting options among Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool are still searching for the right formula in the middle third - particularly when it comes to ball-winning qualities.

Liverpool short of midfield options

Having sold Curtis Jones to Inter Milan - and allowing Stefan Bajcetic to move to Celta Vigo on favourable terms - the Anfield side are short of options in the centre.

With transfer spend ending up elsewhere - on Bradley Barcola and others - midfield was neglected for a refit.

Iraola has seen enough however according to a new report in TEAMtalk - with four midfielders now on the shortlist for a potential January switch to Merseyside.

Stankovic now in the frame

The outlet claims Alexander Stankovic - son of Inter treble legend Dejan Stankovic - was brought up in talks with the Italian champions during the Jones negotiations.

And citing Ben Jacobs as well as David Ornstein three other names have now been put forward for consideration for the Reds.

Lamine Camara, was perilously close to a move to Chelsea just before the summer transfer deadline - and is now favoured by Liverpool for a transfer in January.

Further to that the name of Manu Kone has once again cropped up. Liverpool have been on the Frenchman’s case since his Borussia Monchengladbach days and may finally pull the trigger for the Roma man amid a lack of bite in midfield.

And there is of course Alex Scott - who has looked a cut above once again in the early parries of the season for Bournemouth.

He too was linked with Chelsea in summer but Liverpool will no doubt be hoping that the player’s relationship with Iraola - who coached him for the Cherries - will be enough to swing the deal.

“Liverpool were making calls to the camp of Camara, making it clear that if he stayed, he would be a player relatively high in their thinking for 2027," Jacobs said to TheRedmenTV.

“He’s not the only one. You’ve got Manu Kone, who Chelsea had looked at as well. And Alex Scott, I think he will be on Liverpool’s radar too.”
