It will soon come time for Liverpool to make a decision over Alexis Mac Allister.

There is no doubting the Argentina midfielder’s impact since joining from Brighton back in 2023 for around £35m.

Mac Allister has established himself as a key part of Arne Slot’s team - helping the club to their 20th top-flight title last season. But it’s no secret that the No10 ran out of steam towards the end of the campaign.

The 26-year-old sat out the final two matches of the Premier League season - and failed to get a full preseason under his belt this summer.

And in truth, Macca has looked a little undercooked in the early part of this season - being outshone in midfield by Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The World Cup winner has been in and out of the team owing to injury and fitness issues - and right now he is not nailed on for his starting spot due to the knock-on effects of Florian Wirtz’s acquisition.

And with Mac Allister’s contract running out in 2028 - it would be no surprise if Richard Hughes and Arne Slot consider offers for their playmaker while his value remains high.

Reports suggest that Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso sees Mac Allister as a “dream” signing alongside Aurelien Tchouameni in his midfield.

Fichajes even suggests that an offer of €120m is under consideration at the Bernabeu - certainly a figure that would pique Liverpool’s interest given the other midfielders at their disposal.

There is no suggestion that Mac Allister is unhappy at Liverpool but if he has his eyes on a pay rise on a new contract then his performance levels will need to pick up.

Otherwise the temptation to cash in on one of Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning stars will begin to grow.
