Liverpool midfielder tells Richard Hughes he WON'T renew contract
Liverpool have got several contract issues to solve - especially in the midfield sector.
Wataru Endo is one player unlikely to be offered a new deal with the 32-year-old’s terms expiring in 2027. Curtis Jones’ deal expires next year too and right now there are concerns that his days as a Red could be numbered.
It’s believed that two OTHER midfielders - Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai - are now ahead of Jones in the queue for a new deal.
Both joined in the summer of 2023 - a transformative transfer campaign which remade the midfield overall.
Another player who came in that summer was Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentina World Cup winner was signed for £35m from Brighton - inking a deal until 2028.
Liverpool midfielder Mac Allister linked with Real Madrid
The 27-year-old was a major force in his first two seasons at Anfield - helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to the 2024 EFL Cup before starring for Arne Slot in the 2024/25 Premier League title-winning campaign.
But the No10 has been on the slide for the last year or so with Mac Allister unable to recapture his best form on a consistent basis.
It has led to speculation that Liverpool would listen to offers for Macca in the summer transfer window - instead of letting his contract run down any further.
With a deal worth ÂŁ150k per week according to reports it would probably require even more money for the playmaker to renew - given his age, experience and trophy record.
Whether Liverpool are minded to pay it is another matter - especially if his decline cannot be reversed.
Mac Allister won't renew Liverpool contract
But a report from the Spanish press now claims that Mac Allister is going to take the decision out of Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes’ hands.
Planeta Real Madrid is running a story which suggests that Mac Allister’s entourage have informed Liverpool that he will REJECT a new contract - paving the way for a move to the Bernabeu.
“His agents have dropped the bombshell of a possible rejection of a renewal, which would force Liverpool to sell him,” the report reads.
LFC value Mac Allister at ÂŁ87m
Liverpool would be set against losing Mac Allister for free in 2028 - and may be left with no choice but to find a buyer. In summer 2026 with two years left on his deal the Premier League champions are much more likely to find a buyer on favourable terms.
When it gets to 2027 the danger is they will have to accept a knockdown price.
The report claims decision-makers at Anfield are currently valuing Macca at around €100m (£87m) but the latest move on the part of Mac Allister’s team is designed to reduce the outlay for Madrid.
“Real Madrid are looking to capitalize on this,” the report reads.
Mac Allister has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain in recent days. If Liverpool were to offload the midfielder then they could press on with plans to acquire Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.
