Alexander Isak deal moves closer as Newcastle enter talks over striker
Liverpool are known to be keen on adding a new forward to the squad this summer. Despite a Premier League title-winning season in 2024/25, head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes are not standing still.
Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have seen their status at the club placed under threat, with an exit all but inevitable for Nunez at least.

There is no shortage of names linked with Anfield this summer in the No9 position. Among those listed are Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike, but there is little doubt about the striker Liverpool want most.

Alexander Isak, 25, has established himself as one of the most consistent forwards around. The Sweden international hit 23 goals for Newcastle United in the league last season - propelling them back into the Champions League.
Isak to Liverpool gets big boost
Isak would reportedly command over ÂŁ120m in the transfer market if he were to be sold. And if the Magpies fail to entice Isak into signing a new contract then sooner or later they might be faced with a conundrum.
It appears that the club are taking steps to REPLACE Isak as soon as this summer - providing a huge transfer boost to Liverpool in the process.
The Reds will be all the more optimistic of landing the Swede should Newcastle go into the market for another starting No9. And now, according to a report in the Telegraph, that’s exactly what’s about to transpire.
Newcastle are starting talks with Brighton over Joao Pedro
“Newcastle United are on the verge of opening talks with Brighton and Hove Albion over the signing of forward Joao Pedro,” a report reads. It adds that the Seagulls would be looking for around £60m for their 23-year-old Brazil star.
Joao Pedro is also on the list for Liverpool - with the club known to be keen on the talismanic forward since his teenage days at Fluminense and Watford.
But the ultimate prize is Isak.
Although the report states that Joao Pedro would provide cover and competition for Isak, reading between the lines it must be assumed that he isn’t going to move to Newcastle in order to become a No2.

What remains now is for Liverpool to ascertain exactly what Eddie Howe’s plans are if he gets Joao Pedro to the club along with Isak.
It may well be only a matter of time before suitors for the hitman are encouraged to make a bid.
