Federico Chiesa came in from the cold for the opening game of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The 27-year-old Italian was left out of the club’s pre-season tour to Asia - and it was widely expected he would wrap up a return to Serie A.

Chiesa signed for the Reds back in September 2024 - from Juventus - in a deal that could reach £12.5m.

But with Liverpool short on attackers following the sales of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, the winger was given an unexpected chance to change the game on Friday night.

Chiesa breaks into Liverpool team

Having led 2-0, Arne Slot’s side were pegged back to 2-2 by Bournemouth with Antoine Semenyo netting twice for the visitors. But Chiesa made a huge impact - scoring off the bench and setting Liverpool up for a winning start to the league season.

And the goal coincided with a new report emerging from Italy claiming that talks between the player and AC Milan had been stepped up.

Frequent contact between Chiesa and Milan

The Rossoneri have undergone extensive reconstruction this summer and new coach Max Allegri reportedly sees Chiesa as an ideal candidate to bolster their attacking ranks.

That’s according to Sport Italia journalist Alfonso Sciascia - who claims that Chiesa would be the crowning glory of the Italian giants’ transfer window.

“Increasingly frequent contacts between Milan and the agents of Federico Chiesa: the Italian forward could be the real cherry on top of the Rossoneri’s transfer market,” he wrote on X.

Right now there there are no guarantees over Chiesa’s future. Liverpool require numbers in attack and it’s feasible that Ben Doak or Harvey Elliott could leave instead.

Under contract until 2028, Liverpool have been patient with Chiesa and got a glorious payoff when he helped them to a fantastic three points against the Cherries.

It’s taken Chiesa a full year to score his first Premier League goal - but will it be his last?
