Liverpool star is undroppable, it's shocking what the club is doing

One Liverpool star is suddenly undroppable. And that makes what the club is doing with him all the more bizarre.

Liverpool had a lot of plans in the summer but a frankly incredible number of them failed. That started with attempting to land Yan Diomande as the no.1 target, only to lose out to Paris Saint-Germain (who subsequently lost out to Real Madrid).

The Reds pivoted to Bradley Barcola but that one did confuse things. Liverpool now have four left-wingers and no right-wingers. Though, that wasn't part of the plan, either.

The club wanted to sell Cody Gakpo and bring in Yankuba Minteh or Ismaila Sarr - two players who can comfortably operate from the right. Everything fell through, however, and now the Reds still have Gakpo and no natural right-sided player.

And even that's not the only collapsed deal.

Alexis Mac Allister is undroppable

Liverpool also had plans to sell Alexis Mac Allister in the summer and to bring in a new midfielder. That didn't happen, and now the Argentine is sitting in the Reds' midfield still.

And thank God he is. Mac Allister has unquestionably been Liverpool's star midfielder this season and showed it again at Bournemouth on Sunday. He was fantastic in an all-action display that saw him pass the ball well and contribute heavily in defence.

Liverpool don't have another midfielder who can reliably do all of that. It's meant that Andoni Iraola relies on Mac Allister and has quite plainly chosen him as a regular option over the likes of Dominik Szobozlai and Ryan Gravenberch.

And this is a player Liverpool wanted to sell! And one that, per Mac Allister himself, they don't feel they're 'in a position' to reward with a new contract. That's despite giving new deals to both Szoboszlai and Gravenberch this year.

The situation now looks quite shocking. Mac Allister was arguably the club's best midfielder in the title-winning campaign and is now their most reliable by some way.

Yet, Liverpool look quite comfortable in letting the player leave sometime soon. It's a decision that they'll come to regret - and this season continues to demonstrate why.
