Liverpool signed a €180m star, set to explode under Andoni Iraola
Liverpool have already bagged themselves a €180m star. He's going to be a mega-star under Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool are currently locked in talks to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. The winger won't come cheap - the Athletic are among those reporting that €180m is the asking price.
£145m in other words. It would be the third-biggest transfer in history and breaks the British transfer record just one year after Liverpool set it.
And in hindsight, Liverpool actually got a good deal with that record-breaking move. They signed Alexander Isak for £125m from Newcastle United and one year on, that's almost a steal.
We've just seen Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers go for £116m and £117m. Two players without Isak's pedigree and in positions that traditionally don't cost as much as strikers.
It is not unreasonable whatsoever to assume that Isak's valuation would be on par with Barcola's this summer. In fact, cast your mind back and the expectation around the Swede was considerably higher than it is around the Frenchman.
Much as with PSG now, Newcastle demanded Liverpool smash the transfer record to get their player. Isak, in 2026, would cost far, far more now.
That's obviously good news, especially as we're still to see the best of Isak. He will feel like something of a new signing this season, under a new manager and with an actual pre-season behind him.
We don't expect the injuries, nor do we expect him to struggle getting up to speed. This season, rather than the last, should be when we get to see what Liverpool paid all the money for.
This is the equivalent of welcoming a €180m signing to the club. One we fully expect explodes under Andoni Iraola now that he can finally play in a team that actively looks to create and exploit space.
It's Isak's season and one where Liverpool get to see a superstar signing in action.
