Liverpool ready to cut ANOTHER loan deal short

Liverpool took the decision to loan out several talents as part of their extensive squad overhaul last summer.

Owing to £450m worth of new arrivals, sacrifices needed to be made. We saw the likes of James McConnell and Vitezslav Jaros move to Ajax for example while Harvey Elliott, Lewis Koumas and Kostas Tsimikas also left.

It’s fair to say that not every loan is working out - with many of those players above struggling to make their mark on temporary spells away from Anfield.

McConnell has been frozen out at Ajax - with the midfielder hindered by the exit of John Heitinga - the Amsterdam side’s head coach who was sacked after only 15 matches.

Elliott meanwhile is nowhere to be seen for Aston Villa - with Unai Emery’s side seemingly now seeking to avoid the minimum game clause which would trigger a £35m permanent deal.

And Koumas is in choppy waters at Birmingham - struggling for starts and in danger of being sent back to Liverpool in January too.

Tsimikas struggling for game time at Roma

Those three could be joined ahead of schedule in the new year by Kostas Tsimikas too. The 29-year-old Greece international is having a hard time of it at Roma - with Liverpool having agreed a so-called “dry loan” with the Italians last summer.

Under contract on Merseyside until 2027, there is no purchase clause attached to this deal and the Reds may well see Tsimikas back at the club very soon.

He’s only made three Serie A starts for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side thus far with the new Roma head coach satisfied to move naturally right-sided players to the left instead of picking Tsimikas.

And that has led to speculation in the Roman media that the former Olympiacos left-back will see his time in the Italian capital cut short.

Roma journalist 'convinced' Tsimikas will leave

“Tsimikas will leave, I'm convinced,” Mario Corsi of Tele Radio Stereo said according to Giallorossi.net’s On Air article.

Indeed it’s been claimed that Tsimikas is struggling with the demands of the Roma manager.

“I've heard this: there are players who can't handle Gasperini's training," the journalist continued.

"In my opinion, he's not a dud, he's just exhausted by these workouts.”

Tsimikas facing uncertain future

Tsimikas became a firm favourite throughout his time on Merseyside - being given the nickname of the “Greek Scouser”.

He joined for around £11m back in 2020 without ever truly establishing himself as a first-team regular under Jurgen Klopp or Arne Slot.

Now he could be returning to the club with just 18 months on his deal - with Liverpool facing the prospect of loaning him out again or else settling for a cut-price fee.
