Liverpool temporarily halted their run of poor form with a couple of wins against Aston Villa and Real Madrid.

It looked very much like the Reds had turned a corner - with Arne Slot finding the formula to get back to winning ways. However the season is looking quite bleak again following the club’s latest setback.

Liverpool were swept aside by Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday - going down 3-0 to Pep Guardiola’s men. It represents the fifth loss of the league season already for Slot’s side - who have lost their last four away games running.

Despite spending £450m on improving the 2024/25 title-winning squad, it looks right now that Liverpool have gone backwards.

Liverpool waiting for inspiration

New signings such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz haven’t stood out - while the players already on the books are having trouble maintaining their consistency.

Much was expected from this Liverpool squad following the transfer window - and a sequence of Premier League wins at the start of the 2025/26 season.

But that all looks in the remote past now as the Reds face up to surrendering their Premier League title.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane now says the Reds are in CRISIS mode ahead of the international window. Pointing out their recent run of defeats, the Irishman states that the club should be doing much better.

Roy Keane says Liverpool are in crisis

"I think it is crisis time for Liverpool,” the Premier League title-winning captain said on Sky Sports. “It's okay to lose to a club like Man City - it's a tough place to come.

"But to lose seven in ten - five league losses already - It has to be a crisis for a club like Liverpool.

"I thought Liverpool looked like a really weak team today.

“City looked stronger, technically better and more physical than Liverpool today. "[Liverpool] still had moments, they've always got quality, but the goals they're giving away - their decision making - was not good enough.

"There was a lack of intensity, a lack of energy. The subs, when they came on, looked really soft.

"I think it is a crisis for Liverpool."

The Reds are back in action following the international window against Nottingham Forest before a Champions League clash with PSV. Let’s hope the club can get back in the winning habit.
