The focus so far this summer has been on Liverpool's spending, but we still have sales to make.

As such, the financial outlook of this window is likely to change significantly over the next few weeks and once deals are agreed, we'll then have a better understanding of how the squad will look.

Currently it's difficult to see where the gaps in Arne Slot's outfit are, since Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are almost guaranteed to leave eventually, but they'll remain in our plans while they're still here.

In the case of Diaz, Liverpool have started to future-plan, by utilising Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha in their pre-season campaign instead of the Colombian, who was left out of the squad for the game against Stoke which took place behind closed-doors. This is because the speculation surrounding his future has gone up a notch in recent weeks. We're now led to believe he's on the brink of a move.

Diaz and Bayern are close

It's the German giants Bayern Munich who have displayed the most interest in Diaz so far and they're intent on getting their man, despite the high €100m asking price that Liverpool have put on him.

We didn't know if Liverpool would consider budging on their demands, since the stance that club has shown so far has been one of 'he's not for sale', but the latest reports claims there's been movement.

According to Nicolo Schira, who posted an update on X: "Luis Diaz is getting closer to Bayern Munich from Liverpool for €75m. Agreement in principle with the winger for a contract until 2030."

That figure would equate to around £65m which is £16m profit on the £49m Liverpool paid in 2022.

Of course, it's not quite the £80m that Liverpool were looking for and whether the club decides to accept the offer or not is still unknown, although an 'agreement in principle' exists if Schira is right.

Generally speaking, that amount feels like it fairly reflects his value, since Diaz is 28 years-old and if the club genuinely aren't looking to offer him a new contract, then why not cash in and replace him.

Players such as Rodrygo Goes at Real Madrid aren't that more expensive, meaning Liverpool could have a far superior winger, who is younger and has a higher ceiling, for around a £20m net spend.

Many of the fans are big admirers of the Brazilian and he would compliment Gakpo nicely on the left.

Of course, this potential move relies on whether Diaz will actually leave, and we are yet to see some of the more prominent and slightly more reliable outlets report this update, but you feel we aren't far away from the Reds allowing him to make the move he wants and £65m would be a good return.
