Liverpool made two big name acquisitions up front last summer.

We saw the Premier League champions conduct a £69m deal to bring in Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. And on transfer deadline day they brought in Alexander Isak for a British-record £125m fee.

Of course forwards were moved on to accommodate the new arrivals with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez both being shipped out.

Now owing to the presence of such high-quality frontmen the Merseysiders may well be about to lose one of the most promising strikers in their academy system.

Keyrol Figueroa could leave

Keyrol Figueroa, 19, has been in sensational form in the Premier League 2 this season - netting 11 times in 14 matches.

The young No9 has been absent from the picture in recent weeks owing to injury and wasn’t called up to either the United States’ under-20 or under-21 squads last week.

Honduras-born Figueroa is wanted by his native country and it remains to be seen where his future lies at international level.

And right now Liveprool have got a contract crisis on their hands over Figueroa - who has been called up to the first team by Arne Slot this season.

He is reported to be out of contract in summer 2026 and neglected to sign a new deal in January ahead of a scheduled loan move.

Having signed with Federico Pastorello’s P&P Sport Management it is expected that Figueroa is putting in the groundwork ahead of a summer switch.

No renewal without game-time guarantees

PSV and Porto are both thought to be keen on offering the forward a first-team pathway. Liverpool in contract negotiations have been unable or unwilling to do the same - and that could see him depart for pastures new.

Keyrol Figueroa is in talks to renew his contract with Liverpool, but I don't know if he'll do it because they want to guarantee him playing time with the first team. If Liverpool doesn't guarantee it, it probably won't happen,” journalist Álvaro de la Rocha said on Radio América via Futbol Centro America.

Not only are PSV and Porto among Figueroa’s suitors but there is another Premier League club sniffing around. A player of immense pedigree Liverpool won’t be able to give him what he needs owing to the presence of both Isak and Ekitike.

Therefore it might be more attractive to the player to move on to a less glamorous club in search of the game time he needs.

“There’s another Premier League team interested in Keyrol Figueroa, but that doesn’t guarantee him anything either,” the report continues.

“He might be moving down a level in terms of clubs, but at least he’d have the guarantee of playing in the top division.”
