Trent Alexander-Arnold moves CLOSER to Anfield return

Liverpool lost one of their own over the summer when Trent Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old had been at Anfield for around 20 years - rising to become of the club’s most important players of the modern era.

However - with a contract expiring in 2025 - Trent decided to take up a move to the Bernabeu. It was a bitter blow to Liverpool - losing their two-time Premier League title-winning full-back.

The club did at least make some money back on the England international - with Madrid paying £10m to move his deal forward to the start of June.

Trent's difficult start at Real Madrid

Life in the Spanish capital didn’t get off to the best of starts for Trent - who was injured back in March and made his transfer short of match fitness. Although he played in the FIFA Club World Cup, his campaign ended early due to injury.

He started the season in Xabi Alonso’s lineup but quickly lost his place to Dani Carvajal. The veteran full-back was returning from an injury of his own and managed to displace Trent in Alonso’s thinking.

Alexander-Arnold did manage to get a start in the Champions League on matchday one against Marseille but again succumbed to injury.

Will Trent come back into the lineup?

He was back on the bench for the weekend win against Barcelona in LaLiga but Carvajal got the nod when it was time to replace Federico Valverde.

Sadly for the Spain international he is once again injured - suffering a blow to his knee on Sunday which is expected to keep him out for two or three months.

And with Real Madrid visiting Anfield in the Champions League next week, it looks like Alexander-Arnold will be featuring from the start.

Real Madrid due on Merseyside next week

He will have the opportunity to prove his fitness in the weekend LaLiga encounter against Valencia before the game takes place on Merseyside on Tuesday.

Alonso may opt to use Valverde once again from the right-back slot but would then lose his power through the midfield.

Therefore Trent could be set for an uncomfortable evening on his own stomping ground with fans expected to tell him up close and personal what they think of his decision to leave.
