Arne Slot sack decision is coming with review now scheduled
Liverpool missed a chance to capitalise on losses for Champions League rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa over the weekend.
Chelsea were beaten by Newcastle at home while Villa were downed by Manchester United in the chase for a place in the Premier League’s top five.
Liverpool were facing relegation candidates Tottenham - missing 14 players - at home at Anfield on Sunday. Another lacklustre display meant the Premier League champions could only draw - giving up yet another expensive goal late in the game.
The Reds have now recorded only FOUR wins in 12 top-flight matches in 2026 - facing Brighton away in their final game before the March internationals.
The pressure is beginning to ramp up on head coach Arne Slot - whose title-winning squad was improved with £450m worth of new signings last summer.
Pressure mounts on Arne Slot
But the Dutchman is unable to generate consistent performances and results in his second season in the hotseat.
His future could now hinge on re-qualification for the Champions League - no easy task with Everton, Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa all in store before the end of the season.
The 47-year-old could also stave off the criticism coming his way with a trophy win and Liverpool are still fighting for the Champions League and FA Cup.
They are behind 1-0 to Galatasaray in the CL’s round of 16 and face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Football Insider is now claiming that an end-of-season audit is set to be conducted by sporting director Richard Hughes which will decide Slot’s fate.
End-of-season review will decide Slot's fate
It’s unlikely that FSG will take any action before the end of the season but the head coach - contracted to 2027 - could be facing an early exit if things don’t pick up fast.
“The pressure has been on Slot for a while now, results, performances have not been good enough,” the report reads.
“He really needs a strong end to the season to really boost his chances of keeping that job on a long-term basis.
“It’s a difficult time for Slot, but I don’t think any result next week against Galatasaray will have an immediate impact on his future.
“At end of the season, I’m sure there will be a review and maybe then a decision might be made on his future.”
Slot safe... for now
Liverpool are facing a crucial Champions League showdown with Turkish giants Galatasaray at Anfield on Wednesday. And following the drab game against Spurs - which provoked a hugely negative reaction inside the ground - Slot cannot afford another big slip-up.
“It’ll definitely ramp up the pressure on him, whether it’ll have a direct influence on a decision to be made on his future before the end of the season, I don’t think so,” the report reads.
“He’s got a bit of credit in the bank and obviously the goal is now to try and end the season with some silverware. Then it’s all about finishing in that top five for the Champions League.”
