Liverpool make major breakthrough in Dominik Szoboszlai contract talks

Liverpool have got a contract problem to solve over Dominik Szoboszlai.

The 25-year-old joined the Reds back in 2023 for around £60m from RB Leipzig - going on to establish himself as a key first-team star at Anfield.

Last season he was excellent as Arne Slot orchestrated a Premier League title win - and the Hungary captain has taken his game to new heights this term.

Whether it’s his central midfield station - or else at right-back or elsewhere - Dom has been integral to Liverpool’s hopes of getting back into the Champions League.

Madrid's Szoboszlai interest

The only issue is that Szoboszlai’s contract expires in a little over two years - summer 2028. Therefore negotiations for a new deal are pivotal - with Richard Hughes hoping to tie the playmaker down beyond 2030.

Szoboszlai’s contract demands have been put as high as £300k per week - more than double his current reported salary. If Liverpool cannot satisfy those demands then Real Madrid will of course be waiting in the wings and ready to make an offer.

But Spanish media reports have now given Liverpool a MAJOR boost in contract talks with Szoboszlai. Given the finances involved with signing a top star like Szoboszlai Fichajes is reporting that Real Madrid currently consider the deal “unfeasible”.

Real Madrid cannot afford Szoboszlai deal

Madrid are realistically the only club on the horizon for Szoboszlai - and if the Bernabeu door closes then it will give the Premier League champions added security in any ongoing negotiations.

The Reds' management is not willing to listen to offers,” the report reads.

“Liverpool didn't even open the door to formal negotiations. There is no asking price on the table. Real Madrid's plans don't involve entering into a financial battle.

“With other priorities on the table, the club understands that the operation is unfeasible at this time.”

Liverpool have got other predicaments to sort - including Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones. But it’s clear owing to his influence over the team that Szoboszlai is the club’s main concern.
