Liverpool have got a NEW Harry Kane coming for the first team
Liverpool signed both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike in last summer’s transfer window.
Among the £450m-worth of new talent, sporting director Richard Hughes opted to bring in TWO top-class centre forwards.
Ekitike has hit the ground running - scoring six goals to this point - but it’s true that the club are still waiting for the best of Isak.
The £125m striker was signed from Newcastle - but has scored only one goal in his Anfield career thus far.
Keyrol Figueroa makes the bench for the first time
The 26-year-old is currently nursing an injury - with Federico Chiesa filling in up top for the midweek defeat to Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup.
Ekitike, who cost £69m from Eintracht Frankfurt, played no part as Arne Slot carefully balances the need for results with keeping his top choices fit.
It is expected that the 23-year-old will be back in the lineup for the weekend Premier League game against Aston Villa - with Slot filling the bench on Wednesday with a selection of academy prospects.
And one day one of those hopefuls could be coming to the Liverpool first team - with Keyrol Figueroa enjoying a breakout week.
Not only did the 19-year-old American forward feature for the first-ever time in the senior setup, he also scored a hat-trick in last weekend’s mini-derby against Everton for the club’s Premier League 2 side in a 4-1 win.
Keyrol Figueroa's breakout week
And following the game against Palace, the son of former Wigan star Maynor Figueroa spoke to This is Anfield about the inspirations in his short career thus far.
He namechecked a couple of Liverpool forwards in the shape of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez - and also reserved praise for England’s No9 Harry Kane.
Indeed the Liverpool starlet can take plenty of encouragement from working with Alex Inglethorpe - the Liverpool academy director who helped guide Kane’s career in his early days at Tottenham.
Harry Kane namechecked by Figueroa
“I like being myself but I go back to Liverpool back in the days when Daniel Sturridge was around – obviously I watched him [and] Luis Suarez,” he said.
“Besides Liverpool, one of my favourite strikers is Karim Benzema. Didier Drogba, Harry Kane as well.
“I know that Alex used to work with [Kane], he used to always give me tips about that so I just take on information as it goes.”
Kane is one of the hottest players on the planet right now - scoring 25 goals in 19 matches for Bayern Munich so far this season.
If Figueroa gets anywhere close to that standard then they will have unearthed a very talented diamond from the academy ranks once again.
