Arne Slot will have been working tirelessly with plans about how he wants his side to play next season and now that is crop of players has been bolstered, more ambitious aims can be set.

But the Reds will be a new outfit next season and how everything will fit together is still unknown, although we might have just been given an insight into what Florian Wirtz's role could be.

Szoboszlai will retain his place in the XI

In an interview with M4 Sport, Dominik Szoboszlai's agent and famous manager Matyas Esterhazy spoke about how he sees the Hungarian getting on in the upcoming season with the Reds.

He said: "I am sure that the two of them [Szoboszlai and Wirtz] will be together on the pitch in some form... I trust that Dominik will jump this step and will be increasingly successful with he constantly developing team."

Of course, this is not a definitive claim, as Slot will have the final word on how the team plays, but Szoboszlai's camp is far from concerned about the arrival of Wirtz and the impact it may have.

We've already seen how a No. 8 role might be adopted next season - which he excelled in for the Hungarian national team at the end of the last campaign, but what might this future set up look like?

Well, bringing Szoboszlai deeper into midfield compromises Alexis Mac Allister, because Ryan Gravenberch is a bit of a non-negotiable in the side, so is losing the Argentine an option? No, really.

So we might see Cody Gakpo or Luis Diaz, or both, left on the bench from time to time, with Wirtz playing as more of a left-winger, or making up a double pivot of No. 10s alongside Szoboszlai, if you want to utilise Wirtz in addition to the title-winning midfield that Arne Slot used last season.

But in general, a lot of different combinations could be used throughout the upcoming campaign, and it will be fascinating to see the impact on each player's workloads. In Szoboszlai's case, the off the ball work he does covering Salah and elsewhere on the pitch is paramount, so we'll need him.

At times, the energy he puts into his performances can be taxing, so a new No. 10 might actually help taken the edge off the burden he carries, but the playing alongside Wirtz must be an ambition also.
