Liverpool have a lot of making up to do after the form they've shown this season.

Arne Slot's men have been a shadow of their former selves over the last few months and, although there has been times when their quality has shone through, their games have often ended in anything but a win.

Players such as Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike are finally starting to find their feet which is certainly helping things run a bit more smoothly.

However, the vast majority of Liverpool's first-team squad have been nowhere near their best which has resulted in their poor form.

Their below-par results have also caused fans to demand change and, at the moment, it feels like some transfers could actually be on the horizon.

After Arne Slot confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong was likely to be out for a few weeks, it seems like Richard Hughes has sprung into action.

At the moment, the Reds have no fit right backs among their ranks which is a massive cause for concern.

However, it isn't Liverpool's defence that could be about to receive a much-needed upgrade.

That is, according to a report by Christian Falk who shared that Arsenal have now entered the race for Yan Diomande.

The 19-year-old wonderkid is one of the most sought-after talents on the market with several Premier League clubs fighting for his transfer.

In fact, both Liverpool and Arsenal have been 'sending scouts' to watch the young Ivorian in action.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with an interest in the attacker, but, since Luis Diaz is their first-choice, the £86 million fee that RB Leipzig are demanding is too steep for them.

This leaves the door open for another club to swoop in and prise him away from the Bundesliga, but, with both Arsenal and Liverpool vying for his services, it could be a long while before an agreement is reached.

Liverpool must focus their efforts on their defence before signing another attacker

Even though Diomande is an exceptional talent, Liverpool must work on improving their defence before its too late.

Slot's men have already suffered far too many injuries in that department and, although they're bolstering their youth ranks with some exceptional defenders, a player with a tad more experience would be a lot more useful to them.

Names such as Denzel Dumfries and Julian Ryerson have snuck into a couple of Liverpool's conversations recently with both offering an awful lot of experience.

However, when all of the Reds' squad are back fit, Slot may feel like he has too many options for one role, hence why a move hasn't bene made just yet.

Everything is still up in the air at the moment, and, unless something major happens before deadline day, it would be a surprise to see a new face welcomed through the Anfield doors.

But, since every day in football is different, nothing can be ruled out.
