Liverpool devastated by unimaginable loss of Diogo Jota
Liverpool Football Club have issued a statement following the tragic deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.
Jota, 28, and his sibling, 25, lost their lives in a car accident in the Zamora region of Spain in the early hours of July 3, 2025.
"Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota," a statement reads.
"The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
"Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
"We will continue to provide them with our full support."
Diogo joined Liverpool back in September 2020 from Wolves.
During his time at Anfield he won the 2024/25 Premier League title as well as the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
In the national team colours of Portugal he was a two-time UEFA Nations League winner - including a title just last month.
He married his wife, Rute Cardoso, on June 22, 2025 - only a few days before his passing.
Diogo is survived by his wife Rute and their three children.
Rest in peace Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.
