This summer has been the summer of Richard Hughes and Liverpool's recruitment team. And they secured another brilliant new arrival just after the window had ended.

Never have the Reds moved with so much swagger in the transfer market, breaking their own club-record twice and securing the two most expensive signings of the window in the process.

We must all tip our hats to Hughes for the work he has achieved. Yet, there was one area where Liverpool fell short.

Hughes was able to secure a lot of income this summer in order to enable the club's expenditure. This was largely because he was able to sell some of Liverpool's players on the fringes.

Jarell Quansah, Ben Doak, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton were all sold for pure profit and for significant sums.

But this would not have been possible had they not all gone out on loan and established themselves in senior football. All four of them spent time in England's lower leagues on temporary moves before making the step up to Liverpool and beyond.

This summer though, Liverpool's loan dealings were disappointing. There were some great moves. James McConnell and Vitezslav Jaros moving to Ajax seems like a smart option.

But there has also been disappointment in the lack of players going out on loan. Kaide Gordon has been left at the club's U21 side. Kieran Morrison, Wellity Lucky and Trent Kone-Doherty, who all deserved loan moves have also failed to get moves.

Considering these players have outgrown U21 football, they would have benefitted more from going into senior football this season. Another six months with the U21s might not be in their best interest. And could prevent Liverpool from being able to continue their business model.

The aforementioned players may yet leave out on loan come January, especially after the Reds completed one last brilliant signing just after the final day of the window.

On September 2nd, the day after deadline day, it was revealed by the Training Ground Guru that Liverpool have appointed Gary Probert from Ipswich Town as the club's Head of Loan Management.

Probert was a Director of Football at Ipswich and helped the club earn promotion to the Premier League. He is someone with a lot experience in English football so he's highly qualified, maybe even over qualified to take on this position at Liverpool.

Probert arrives with a reputation for proven development, being able to recruit players and arrange loan moves in order to benefit his club.

At Ipswich, he oversaw football operations with a holistic approach, tying together academy progression, recruitment, and loan coordination.

That experience will be vital in now reshaping how Liverpool prepare and manage their brightest young talents for the demands of senior football and beyond.

The goal for Probert will be to find pathways for the club's talented young players to reach the next stage in their developments. His aim will be to help them bridge a gap between U21 and first team football at Liverpool.

We've seen how beneficial this can be for players like Conor Bradley, for example, who went on loan to Bolton Wanderers and then became a first-team regular.

Jarell Quansah benefitted a lot from his loan spell at Bristol Rovers, which ultimately saw him break into the first team.

Harvey Elliott did the same at Blackburn Rovers before becoming a key squad player under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

Probert's arrival isn’t a signing that is going to grab the attention or make headlines, but it is a brilliant addition.

With Probert overseeing the next steps for the best young players at the club, Liverpool might just have made one of their smartest acquisitions of the window.

His addition can take the club to the next level and revolutionise Liverpool - making the Reds even more successful with their loan and player development strategy than before.

The prospect of that is mouth-watering. Especially, looking around at the level of talent breaking through at U18 and U16 level at the club.
