Salah, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho. A front-four that looked near-enough unstoppable under Jürgen Klopp.

Coutinho would leave in January but his numbers in that period were insane. 12 goals and eight assists in half a season across the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Salah, of course, would be an immediate phenomenon and go on to break the Premier League goal record for a 38-game season. Firmino rose to the forefront as an elite False 9 and Mané established himself as one of the best left-sided forwards in world football.

It didn't last long, with Coutinho joining Barcelona for an eye-watering fee. But it was magic.

And Liverpool are ready to do it all over again.

Liverpool's new Fab Four

Salah is the only one of the quartet left standing at Anfield, of course. But he’s been joined by a new superstar: Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool broke their transfer record to sign the German playmaker and he’s really the first natural no.10 since Coutinho at the club. With that, the Reds boast an attacking pair for the ages, if all goes to plan.

But they’re not stopping there. Reports in Spain, such as from AS, suggest they’re eyeing up Rodrygo Goes for their left flank if Luis Diaz leaves the club.

He’s be another €100m signing but an incredible one. Rodrygo is one of the most talented forwards around - he’s just wildly misused at Real Madrid.

Then there’s the really big one. Liverpool want to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British transfer record.

That would cost at least £120m. Probably more. But it would land the Premier League’s most exciting striker at Anfield and give the perfect teammate for Salah and Wirtz.

And maybe Rodrygo.

Salah, Wirtz, Rodrygo and Isak? That’s a forward line to rival anything in world football. In fact, on paper it looks comfortably like the best in world football.

And Liverpool want to make it happen. They’re certainly getting closer.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.

You are thinking aloud. How is Isak the 'biggest' news?

I don't believe any of it now. Waiting for the season to start. We'll know then. Nobody is going to pay up for Nunez or Diaz. LFC are stuck
