French wonderkid can fix Liverpool's defence
Liverpool's defence has been one of their main problem areas this season.
The Reds may have signed Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez to try and bolster their ranks but the fact that they missed out on Marc Guehi was a massive blow.
Most fans thought that the Anfield outfit would just be able to get by with four centre-backs among their ranks but since Giovanni Leoni managed to tear his ACL on his debut, that threw yet another spanner in the works.
Since then, things have just gone from bad to worse for the Anfield outfit with Ibrahima Konate being the main cause of their problems.
He may be one of the three centre-back options that Liverpool have among their ranks but at the moment, it genuinely feels like it wouldn't be worth extending his contract.
And, with this in mind, it's not a surprise to see some new centre-back targets popping up with French wonderkid Jeremy Jacquet now on the Reds' radar.
Jeremy Jacquet could help solve Liverpool's defensive woes this season
According to a report from Sky Sports Switzerland, Jacquet has already been scouted 'extensively' by Liverpool with the Anfield outfit looking to 'bolster' their defence.
The report outlines that the Reds' scouting team believe that the 20-year-old has something 'special' about him with the centre-back one of the Reds' most 'sought-after' targets.
And, with the future of Konate still up in the air, it's not a surprise that the Reds are looking to future-proof their defence.
The fact that Virgil van Dijk's contract is set to expire in June 2027 is also far from ideal as, even though he may not have been his usual self this season, he's still been Liverpool's best centre-back.
Jacquet has already played for Ligue 1 outfit Rennes 15 times this season and he also has five Under-21 appearances for France's national team.
He has a massively high ceiling and while Liverpool still have Van Dijk among their ranks to mentor the youngsters, it's hard to see why a move for Jacquet would be frowned upon.
Ibrahima Konate's time with Liverpool is almost up, he shouldn't have his contract extended
Since Trent Alexander-Arnold exited Liverpool for Real Madrid last summer, questions were being asked about what Konate was going to do.
Over the last couple of years, Real have been linked with the free transfer of the Frenchman and even though they've supposedly pulled out of the race for the defender, there's still a chance for a move to occur.
Liverpool obviously won't want to lose Konate for nothing but with the way he's performed this season, it doesn't feel like he'll be worth the pay rise that he's demanding.
And, if the former RB Leipzig man actually wanted to continue being a Liverpool player, a deal would have been struck months ago.
However, once the January transfer window opens, Konate will be free to talk to any team outside of Europe with clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain interested in signing him.
As much as it would hurt Liverpool's fans to see their centre-back leave for nothing, unless the money is right, it doesn't feel like he should be given the chance to extend, that is, unless he can get his act together over the next couple of weeks, of course.
