Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool’s £47m agreement to sign South American star

Liverpool have already undergone a lot of changes this summer.

The Anfield outfit brought four new players through the Anfield doors with a fair few also choosing to pack their bags and leave.

Andoni Iraola's appointment has given the Reds the boost that they needed to get out of the slump that Arne Slot seemed to put them in.

Indeed, a lot of this is down to the new signings that Liverpool have made but, the arrival of Iraola has also spurred fans on.

Most of Liverpool's summer signings have already had a positive impact on the way that things have gone in L4 but, some have been more accepted by the fans than others.

And, with so many changes still needing to be made, it's hardly a shock to see that fans want clarification over the future of some first-team players.

Of all Liverpool's signings, Ronald Araujo has had the biggest impact so far.

The 27-year-old was brought in on a season-long loan from Barcelona and has instantly solidified their defensive ranks/

Even though it took Iraola a couple of games to see that he should be his starting right-back, once he got settled into his position, there's no way that anybody is going to take it away from him.

With all of these starts have come rather impressive performances with some fans even demanding that a permanent deal for the Uruguayan is struck.

However, hopes of that becoming a reality were trashed when Fabrizio Romano said on a podcast that the Reds didn't have an option to buy.

But, he's now backtracked on those comments and has confirmed that he'd made a mistake and that Liverpool do, in fact, have a €55 million option-to-buy for the defender.

"I mentioned on a podcast that Liverpool didn’t have a buy option for Ronald Araujo. That’s not the case, that was my mistake," he said.

"There is a buy option clause worth €55m."

At the moment, it feels like Liverpool would be silly to not activate Araujo's option to buy.

The former Barcelona captain has arguably been Liverpool's best summer signing and, aside from Virgil van Dijk, he's easily been one of their best defenders.

The fact that he's comfortable as a centre-back or a right-back is massive.

Versatility is key in this day and age and, if a player doesn't have the ability to play more than one position comfortably, they're massively hindering their team.

So, Araujo's versatility is probably one of the main reasons why he was bought by Liverpool in the first place.

If the Uruguayan keeps up this level of performance, there's no reason why the Reds wouldn't want to activate his buy-option which is why they could end up being forced to sign him this summer.

Obviously, there are no guarantees just yet but, with the other players who are likely to be available to Liverpool on the market, at the moment, it feels like Araujo would be their best option by far.
