It’s been a difficult few weeks for Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.

The defending Premier League champions have now lost five of their last six top-flight matches. Slot, 47, suffered his heaviest defeat as Liverpool coach on Sunday - losing 3-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad.

Liverpool have now suffered four successive away defeats in the league - and are languishing in eighth position.

A title defence is looking increasingly unlikely as Slot struggled to integrate £450m-worth of new signings. The likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have not yet provided spark or inspiration.

Milos Kerkez has already been usurped by Andy Robertson - while Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni are currently laid up with injury.

Heading into the international window the topic of Slot’s future has been aired.

Under contract until 2027, Slot is of course a Premier League champion but the last few weeks have given his reputation a battering.

However according to Fabrizio Romano, right now there are no plans for the Dutch tactician to be replaced.

Liverpool will not sack Arne Slot

“It's been a complicated start to the season for Liverpool,” the Italian transfer supremo said on YouTube.

“But what I can say is that the information arrives very clear. Liverpool keep backing the manager Arne Slot. Liverpool keep supporting the coach.

“Liverpool keep believing Arne Slot is the right man for this job, is the right man to fix the situation, is the right man to help this team perform after many signings, after many changes, after many different things compared to last season, and so Liverpool maintain their confidence in the manager.

“There is no contact with any other agent or representative of different manager, there is full trust in Arne Slot from the players and from the club.

“So the situation remains absolutely 100% under control, and Liverpool have absolutely no intention to change anything.”

It was always going to be a transitional season given the scale of changes at Anfield over the summer. Let’s hope Slot now gets the time he needs to sort this squad out - and ensure at least a top-four finish in the Premier League.
