One forgotten man has been spotted at Liverpool's training centre.

Even though it doesn't seem like it on paper, Liverpool actually still have quite a large squad. That's because they have a lot of U21 players who were out on loan last season still contracted and still at the club.

Even though Richard Hughes has moved a lot of players on. Including academy graduates like Tyler Morton, Jarell Quansah and Caoimhin Kelleher, some have stayed at Anfield.

Well, for now at least. There's still about a week to go until the transfer deadline so a lot more can happen until then. Liverpool are definitely working over time to get transfers over the line.

Obviously the main focus is Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak. But there's also a focus on getting loan or permanent deals for some of those players on the fringes of the squad.

Kaide Gordon and James McConnell for example are players Liverpool are listening to loan offers for. There will be others, too. Including players like James Balagizi, who definitely doesn't have a long-term future at the club.

There's also one forgotten man who has 19 appearances for the first team and became a cult hero under Jurgen Klopp who is still contracted to Liverpool.

We all remember the dark days of covid football. Especially the season in which Liverpool seemingly lost all their centre-backs.

At the time two young stalwarts from the club's academy stepped up. Nathaniel Phillips moved on this summer but Rhys Williams who became the other cult hero during that season for his important contributions to help the Reds reach the Champions League, is still at the club.

Most people will have forgotten that fact as he has not been involved in first team training under Arne Slot and hasn't featured in pre-season at all.

There's also been very little mention of his name this summer.

But he's now been spotted at the AXA training centre in his latest Instagram story wearing the club's official training kit and confirming that he's still here at Liverpool.

Williams featured for Morecambe in League Two last season and endured relegation during a disappointing campaign.

Now 24-years-old, he's expected to move before the transfer window shuts close. Although his situation is slightly complicated as he's still recovering from an injury he picked up last season.

Nonetheless, his permanent transfer is impending. He'll leave the club and look for pastures new to really kick-start his career.

It's something Williams desperately needs to do. He's proven he's not a bad player. No one is who can play 19 senior games for the Reds.

Now he just needs to find the right environment where he can build on the stable foundations he learn at Liverpool.
