Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola is to make a bold decision on one star. Exactly what is he to do?

Andoni Iraola is currently getting his first proper look at the playing squad at Liverpool. He accepted the head coach role some time ago now but he's had to wait to actually work with his players.

And even now, he doesn't fully get to. Many of the best players are away from the group as they're on a post-World Cup holiday. They'll gradually trickle in.

Ridiculously, the sole summer signing, Victor Munoz, will likely be the last to arrive - he was in the Spain squad to win the trophy, of course. Even if he didn't actually get any minutes.

But that one brings up another question. Liverpool are short on wingers, with Mohamed Salah having also left the club this summer. They're also short on right-backs - Conor Bradley, the first-choice, is injured and will likely be out until 2027.

It piles quite a lot of pressure on one player: Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutchman didn't go to the World Cup and is currently with the Liverpool squad but where he plays is completely up in the air.

Frimpong was signed to be a right-back and compete against Bradley. By the end of the season, however, he was exclusively used as a winger - Arne Slot didn't appear to trust him in defence.

So what is Iraola going to do? He needs to decide whether Frimpong is better suited as a right-back or a right-winger and he'll have to decide it quickly.

Liverpool need players in both roles. Whichever Frimpong isn't preferred in almost certainly necessitates a signing in the other. But that's entirely down to what Iraola sees him as.

Really, Frimpong is neither: he's a wing-back. Liverpool don't play with proper wing-backs, though, and we don't see that changing under Iraola.

He'll have to make a choice, then. Is Frimpong a winger or a right-back? If he's one, Liverpool sign the other. If he's neither, we're not sure what they're going to do...
