Liverpool have signed an absolute super talent.

Let's be honest, Liverpool's summer transfer window has been much quieter than most people expected.

After everything that happened last season, there was a feeling that the club would be extremely active. Liverpool had a new manager coming in, several important players had moved on, and the squad clearly needed work. The expectation was that this would be another statement window.

Instead, the Reds have taken a much more patient approach, which has naturally left supporters wondering when the club is finally going to accelerate its plans.

That said, there are understandable reasons why things have moved slower than expected.

The biggest factor has been the amount of change happening both on and off the pitch. Andoni Iraola has arrived with a completely different footballing philosophy, and that naturally changes the type of players Liverpool need to target. Recruitment is no longer just about finding talented players - it is about finding players who specifically fit Iraola's system, his intensity and the demands of his style.

That process takes time.

There has also been significant change at executive level. Michael Edwards stepping away and Richard Hughes preparing to leave creates another layer of uncertainty.

Transfer strategy is built around long-term planning, and when there are changes among the key decision-makers, it can slow down the process as priorities are reassessed and decisions are carefully reviewed.

The World Cup added another complication too. Major international tournaments almost always create a slower transfer market.

Players are focused on representing their countries, selling clubs are reluctant to make quick decisions, and many teams prefer to wait and see how performances at the tournament affect a player's value.

Liverpool also suffered a major setback when Yan Diomande, their preferred attacking target, decided he wanted to join Paris Saint-Germain instead, and now he could be on his way to Real Madrid in a bizarre turn of events.

Missing out on your first-choice option is always frustrating, but it is even more difficult when that player fits almost perfectly into the profile you are looking for.

Thankfully, things are looking a bit brighter now. The World Cup is over and that is likely to speed up the market.

It looks like things are accelerating for Bradley Barcola, who could end-up being a Liverpool player by the end of the window.

The pressure is now on the recruitment team to get that deal over the line.

Of course there's so many other areas of the pitch Liverpool also need to address. But in one area, despite all the injuries there is some reassurance.

In Nashville on Saturday night, Mor Talla Ndiaye lined-up for Liverpool's first-team for the first time since he was signed in the January window.

It was a huge night for the young Senegalese centre-back. Six months ago, he was still playing in Senegal's second tier. And now here he was going up against a Premier League side.

Ndiaye, it's fair to say, didn't disappoint. He was superb. He made the most passes into the final third (8), won 3/4 of his ground duels and 2/2 of his aerial duels.

He showed himself to be the perfect modern day defender capable of instigating attacks from deep with his distribution and also just being able to read situations very well and excel in his one vs one duels.

At 18-years-old, putting in a performance like that takes your breath away. It makes you go: Wow! That's how special Ndiaye is.

He's got everything to be an incredible player, and he confirmed on Saturday evening against Sunderland that Liverpool acquired an absolute super talent when they signed him.

Given Liverpool's lack of movement, Ndiaye could help alleviate some of Iraola's lack of depth at the back.
