Journalist James Pearce has confirmed that Liverpool are not interested in signing Sporting Lisbon's Matheus Nunes.

The midfielder has recently been linked with a move to Anfield. However, Pearce has confirmed on Twitter that the Reds will not be making a move for Nunes this summer.

The reporter further added that the Reds do not plan on signing a midfielder this transfer window.

Pearce tweeted: "Told that talk of #LFC bidding for Sporting’s Matheus Nunes is nonsense. Club’s stance unchanged regarding summer business. No plans to strengthen midfield further in this window."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Nunes is a fine player. The midfielder averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.08 across the 2021-22 league campaign.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is certainly a fan of Nunes.

"Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today. Despite the difficulties and some mistakes, I have to be very satisfied because we took a big step towards the next round," he said back in February, as quoted by One Football.

"Nunes is one of the best at the moment."

Therefore, Nunes would be a fine addition to Liverpool's midfield. But, as Pearce stated, this is a transfer which won't occur this summer.

Hopefully Liverpool make a move for Nunes in the near future. He is contracted until the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.

Nunes possesses a current market value of £31.50 million. With that being the case, the 23-year-old should be available for a reasonable price.

Because of Nunes' age, he could play in Liverpool's midfield for a number of years. Only time will tell if the youngster and the Reds are to cross paths.
