It was not supposed to go like this...

Only a few months ago Arne Slot was celebrating a Premier League title victory in his first season at the club. Only a few months ago he was heralded as the perfect successor to Jurgen Klopp's throne and one of the best minds in the game.

Now Liverpool have lost five of their last six matches and the pressure is on the Dutchman to figure things out.

The biggest issue and concern is that there's a clear pattern with every defeat Liverpool have suffered.

In all five games Liverpool were slow in their build-up, could not defended transitions and struggled to contain set-piece situations, conceding goals far too often in the process.

These are things you'd like to think a manager could address. Yet Slot has not been able to do it.

That's a concern but the bigger issue is far deeper. For a few games running now, we've seen the same script in Slot's in-game reaction to Liverpool going down a goal or two.

A manager confident in his system would trust the process and not tweak too much. Even a goal or two down, you'd think he would believe in the game plan that had been concocted before the match.

Yet Slot doesn't do this. He doesn't trust his game plan. Instead he will often roll the dice and bring on a plethora of attackers or make wholesale changes.

This has pretty much always backfired and made Liverpool worse, ruining their momentum and chance of getting back into the game.

Ultimately, there are a lot of issues at Liverpool right now but Slot's biggest one is his in-game management. He doesn't need to make such drastic and radical decisions.

He's got players who are very much good enough and capable of turning things around on the pitch. He has a system that worked out for him last season, and part of that success was also because Slot didn't swap a lot of things around.

He pretty much never rotated his options. Yet as soon as he feels a little bit under the pressure, he suddenly resorts to changing everything.

It's something you do in Football Manager when you are desperate and it's not something an elite coaching should be doing week in, week out.

Liverpool's solutions are simpler than they seem. It starts from Slot trusting his system. That is very much the answer to all of Liverpool's problems.

We can't be having the chaos that ensues as soon as Liverpool are chasing a game.

SOLUTION: KLOPP SLOT KLOPP. Too many players are uninspired. Even under Klopp LFC were slow to start games. Is it VVD natural lethargy? On paper, you are Champions, you bought 100M+ players, but you freak out on the pitch? Huge psychological problem. Mentally off!
