It has been a bizarre eight months since Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions.

The Reds spent big in the summer, something many supporters have been calling for repeatedly for years, and several genuinely world class talents were added to a title-winning side.

Many supporters around England expected Liverpool to dominate the league once again, but that hasn’t been the case and a successful title defence now looks almost impossible.

The Reds’ results over the past few months don’t make for pleasant viewing, and pressure has been heaped on head coach Arne Slot, leaving many supporters questioning just how bad things really are at Liverpool.

Liverpool’s off the pitch problems

It isn’t just The Reds’ on-pitch performance that has supporters concerned, there is a general feeling that there are problems behind the scenes at Anfield too.

X user @LFCApproved is just one supporter that has pointed out some of the concerns shared by many Reds, flagging Mohamed Salah’s public fallout with Slot and recent rumours that both Andrew Robertson and Curtis Jones would have been happy to leave the club this winter.

They also highlight the lack of movement on Ibrahima Konate’s contract renewal and the fact that several of the club’s top prospects, including Joshua Abe, look like they could leave the club to join rivals in the near future.

When Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp, it felt as though he was walking into a club that was set up for success, but 18 months on that feeling has shifted for many supporters.

How bad are things at Liverpool?

Although there appears to be plenty to be concerned about, in reality things probably aren’t as bad as they seem.

It is impossible to know the inner workings of a football club as an outsider, but it is safe to assume that if performances and results were to improve there would be a lot less to worry about off-pitch.

It is of course entirely possible that it is the off-pitch problems that have caused Liverpool’s drop off, and in that case the supporters must trust the ownership to resolve the issues.

FSG and Michael Edwards have enjoyed a successful decade with Liverpool, improving the stadium and building the club back up to being one of the biggest in the world.

The vast majority will never know the true extent of what goes on behind the scenes, but supporters must maintain belief that those in charge at Anfield can return Liverpool to last season’s glory.
