James Pearce was impressed with Ibrahima Konate's performance against Newcastle United at Anfield last night.

The journalist said that the Liverpool centre-back was "strong and commanding" throughout the Premier League fixture.

Pearce further added that Konate made some crucial tackles/interceptions against the Magpies.

Liverpool defeated Newcastle United 3-1.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Pearce told The Athletic the following: "Really enjoyed Konate's performance. Strong and commanding. Made some big tackles at key moments and I loved that bit of close control just in front of the technical areas when he kept the ball away from [Ryan] Fraser."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We were also impressed with Konate's display against Newcastle United. The centre-back registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.84 for his 90-minute performance against the Magpies.

Konate completed one tackle and three interceptions during the Premier League fixture.

The only thing missing from the 22-year-old's performance against Newcastle United was a clean sheet. But, Liverpool secured the three points and that is all that matters.

After 17 matches, the Reds sit in second-place on the Premier League table. Liverpool are only one-point behind league leaders Manchester City.

The aforementioned placings highlight that the Reds could mount a serious challenge for the title. But, only time will tell if Liverpool are genuine contenders.
