Star winger to replace Mo Salah will announce himself this week
An exciting winger could announce himself as Mo Salah's replacement this week.
Whether or nor Arne Slot survives his position as head-coach of the football club, it feels like the Egyptian's time is also coming to an end.
With Saudi Arabian interest intensifying ahead of the January transfer window, it would not be a surprise if Liverpool considered accepting an offer for Salah.
This would have been unthinkable merely a few months ago. However, relationships have soured and his outburst after Leeds United in the mixed zone merely proved that something is not quite right.
As Salah himself suggested to him it feels like someone doesn't want him at the club. Whether that is Slot or the the club's board is moot.
Nonetheless, Salah's words about saying his goodbye to Liverpool fans at Anfield against Brighton seem to be pretty indicative of just how bad the situation has gotten.
With Salah set to leave for the African Cup of Nations, that Brighton game could be his very last for Liverpool. It would be a sad end for a club legend.
It would also be fitting that in the game at the weekend, Salah's ultimate successor to the throne would announce himself.
Liverpool take on a Brighton side filled with talent. But there is one talent that stands out from the rest in Yankuba Minteh. He has simply been sensational this season and he is someone Liverpool view as a replacement for Salah.
Minteh doesn't have the same output as Salah. But he offers speed on the flanks and the ability to play as a wing-back. He's more of a facilitator as a winger. Someone who will go down the wings and put crosses in and look to create chances for his teammates.
That's exactly what Liverpool need right now with the profile of forwards they have. Make what you will of Arne Slot's comments about how the Reds' don't have a Jacob Murphy profile in the team, it's true.
Minteh is that profile. He could help unlock Alexander Isak and maybe even get the better out of Hugo Ekitike.
So, it would be fitting if he were to put in a good performance at Anfield this week and in the process announce himself as the Salah successor.
Sometimes one good performance is all it takes. Not only to convince the board but also the fans. Just take Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino, Luis Diaz or Darwin Nunez as an example.
They all caught the eye against Liverpool before making a move to Anfield.
Minteh could easily be the next. He fits the profile that Liverpool want during the post-Salah era. He won't be as prolific as the Egyptian but he will create more chances and he could make Liverpool a more balanced side.
The fact that he's already worked with Slot is a bonus. Perhaps bringing Minteh in could even save the manager's job.
