Star STAYING as late Liverpool deal falls through
A very late Liverpool deal appears to have fallen through. One star is now staying put.
The January transfer window now only has a few more days to run before slamming shut. Liverpool have been remarkably quiet, though - zero senior deals have gone through, either incoming or outgoing.
It's a strange decision, in truth. Liverpool have struggled badly this season and it's clear to everyone that something isn't right with the squad.
Most clubs would take advantage of the window to at least add one missing ingredient. The Reds, however, look set to stick with what they've got and hope results can turn around over the second half of the campaign.
And that's especially true after the collapse of perhaps their only January transfer plan.
Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas and left-backs
The last week has seen Andy Robertson heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, it seems that Liverpool have agreed terms on the deal with Spurs and it's ready to go through.
So what's holding it up? The Athletic is one of many reporting that Liverpool will only sanction the deal if Kostas Tsimikas returns from his loan at AS Roma.
Now, Roma are more than happy to let Tsimikas leave as he's been a bust for them this season. The left-back has been deemed not good enough by the club - but they'd still need a new left-back to replace him.
That isn't going to happen, however. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Tsimikas will now remain with Roma for the rest of the season as they can't find that replacement.
In turn, Robertson will not be allowed to join Spurs. Perhaps he's able to in the summer with the expiration of his contract - but the vice-captain will be made to wait before sorting his future.
