A special player is nearing a return to the first team for the first time in eight months.

At this moment in time, Arne Slot has what he wanted. He needed new weapons in Liverpool's attack. He got exactly that. Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike have arrived.

Florian Wirtz was signed to create magic behind the attackers. Meanwhile, Rio Ngumoha has emerged as a genuine option for the first team.

Not to mention Jeremie Frimpong is also an option on the right-wing.

They have made Liverpool a more unpredictable and a much better team. But there is still one person missing from Slot's jigsaw who the Dutchman has liked very much.

Someone who could now be nearing a return to the first team.

Jayden Danns was someone who was pinpointed as a player by Slot that the Dutchman admired from the club's academy. Danns was supposed to have a bigger role when Slot first arrived if it wasn't for his injury woes.

But as soon as he returned from his injury problems last season, Danns went straight into training with the first team. To demonstrate just how highly Slot rated him, Danns was given an opportunity in the space of about a month where he made an appearance for the first team in the League Cup (against Southampton), FA Cup (against Accrington), Champions League (against PSV) and the Premier League (against Ipswich Town).

The last of those appearances was the PSV game, which was at the end of January, on the 29th.

After that Danns was sent out on loan to Sunderland, where he never made an appearance due to recurring injury problems.

Danns is on his way back

He's not played for Liverpool's first team in competitive action either. Although he did make an appearance in pre-season against Athletic Bilbao.

Crucially, due to him still recovering, he wasn't involved on the pre-season tour with the first team.

Danns has very much just been involved with the U21s since the start of the campaign in order to manage his minutes and make sure he didn't have another setback.

This has been going well so far, and Danns has continued to make an impact on the pitch, too.

For Liverpool's U21 side he's netted one goal in two appearances in the Premier League 2. Meanwhile, he also has a goal and an assist in a friendly against Bolton Wanderers, where he played just 30 minutes.

During the international break he also scored against Italy for England's U20 national team, while captaining his country.

This means, Danns has four goal contributions in four games, and just 222 minutes played in total. It means he's averaging a goal or assist ever 55 minutes he's spent on the pitch.

It's not just been the overall goal contributions though, Danns looks sharp and fitter and he's getting better and better with every game.

He's a real threat and a nuisance upfront and it's only a matter of time until he makes his return to the first team and gets a competitive appearance for Slot's side for the first time in eight months.

Games will be coming up thick and fast. With no Federico Chiesa in the Champions League squad, Danns will also be a back up option for Slot in the competition.

There will be chances in the domestic cups as well, with Southampton coming up in the League Cup.

Danns' is a special talent and his return to the first team is only a matter of time now.
