Richard Hughes locked in transfer TALKS as Liverpool deal now close
Richard Hughes is currently locked in transfer talks. A Liverpool deal is now getting closer and closer.
It’s one of the busiest times of the year in football - the winter transfer window. Clubs have limited time to make things happen and given teams don’t like selling mid-season, it’s a difficult time to buy players anyway.
Unless, as with Manchester City buying Antoine Semenyo, they’ve got a release clause. Liverpool, though, don’t appear to want to trigger any clauses this month.
And in reality, it’s not abundantly clear what Liverpool should do. They’re clearly lacking in key areas but at the same time, they spent over £400m in the summer.
This isn’t a squad short on actual numbers. Even if they’re not necessarily the most complete group of players around, there isn’t much room to bring in new stars.
And that’s why sales might need to happen before Liverpool sign anyone. One of those is now close, too.
Federico Chiesa talks continue
Gazzetta dello Sport claims Liverpool and Juventus remain in talks over Federico Chiesa. The winger is heavily linked with a move back to Italy and it's thought he's finally given his blessing.
Of course, this would also be a move back to Juventus. Chiesa left the club to join Liverpool in 2024 after then-coach Thiago Motta froze him out.
With Motta gone, the door appears open for Chiesa to rejoin. Though, it's unclear whether that would be on loan with an option or obligation to buy.
What is clear is that this one is possible. Chiesa has failed to hold down a place at Liverpool, with Arne Slot incredibly reluctant to use him for substantial minutes.
A fast start to the season seemed to give Chiesa a chance but when minutes didn't follow, his exit has looked like a forgone conclusion. The talks will continue and we imagine a deal will be found.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will then replace him.
