Richard Hughes just signed the NEW Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp
Liverpool have their own versions of Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.
There's only ever been one perfect season in the Premier League. Only one team can call themselves invincibles. Arsenal. 2003/04.
The iconic Nike kit. Iconic players. Arsene Wenger. Youngsters. Legends.
Bergkamp. Henry.
It was an incredible team. An incredible time to watch them be so dominant against one of the most difficult Sir Alex Ferguson teams at Manchester United.
Liverpool were also a force of their own. Michael Owen was still there. Steven Gerrard. Jamie Carragher.
But Arsenal wiped the floor. Why?
Henry. Bergkamp.
They were playing different roles by then. Henry was astonishingly good. He was the star of the Premier League and just a formidable forward.
Bergkamp was towards the end of his career. A seasoned veteran. But he still delivered. He could still be relied upon. And together. When they played, they made miracles happen.
Because only a miracle can produce an invincible season in the Premier League.
Bergkamp and Henry, made it happen.
The Dutchman the provider, the facilitator to Henry, who scored goals for fun.
So many have tried to create the synergy. The dynamism the two of them had. But so far it has been to no avail. Until...
Richard Hughes came along at Liverpool. The club's recruitment team like shamans finally found the right concoction. The perfect mix to conjure Bergkamp's and Henry's new coming. Only even better this time.
Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz came along.
Hughes signed the both of them with a plan to create the most formidable partnership the Premier League has ever seen.
And it has worked a treat. Ekitike has become Liverpool's very own Henry. He has started his career at Anfield even better than Henry.
It took Henry 21 Premier League games to score eight goals, Ekitike has done that in 18 matches.
And in Wirtz, Liverpool have their future Bergkamp. A player with extreme technical skills. Someone who just reads the game faster than anyone else and does things you simply do not expect.
Together, they've combined for four goals already, more than with any other teammate. That partnership is off to a tremendous start.
And what makes it all the more exciting is unlike Bergkamp who is eight years older than Henry, Wirtz is actually a year younger than Ekitike.
So, they'll be hitting their prime together. At the same time.
Hughes is a genius. Imagine the kind of seasons Liverpool are going to be having with these two pulling the strings. Liverpool's invincible era has begun.
